KUKA KR AGILUS robot enables continuous laboratory automation and improves testing efficiency at Anton Paar

The KR AGILUS fits perfectly into Anton Paar GmbH’s testing machine

(IN BRIEF) KUKA’s KR AGILUS robot is being used as a laboratory assistant at Anton Paar, integrated into the HTR 7000 rheometer to automate sample testing processes. The robot handles tasks such as sorting, positioning, and disposing of samples, eliminating up to 14 manual steps and enabling continuous, around-the-clock operation. Capable of processing up to 60 samples daily, the system improves efficiency, consistency, and test quality while freeing up laboratory staff to focus on analytical work. Its compact design, precision, and flexibility make it well suited for laboratory environments, and the solution is already deployed in multiple industries, including food, cosmetics, and brewing. Anton Paar plans to expand the use of robotics further, highlighting the growing importance of automation in laboratory operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) AUGSBURG, 28-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — KUKA is supporting advanced laboratory automation through the deployment of its KR AGILUS robot at Anton Paar GmbH, where it operates as a fully integrated lab assistant within automated testing systems.

The compact six-axis KR AGILUS robot has been incorporated into Anton Paar’s HTR 7000 rheometer, taking over repetitive and time-consuming laboratory tasks such as handling, positioning, and disposing of samples. Designed for precision and efficiency, the robot can manage a wide variety of sample types, including solid, paste-like, and liquid materials, making it particularly suited for applications in industries such as food, cosmetics, and beverages.

With a payload capacity of six kilograms and a reach of 726 millimeters, the KR AGILUS is engineered for use in space-constrained laboratory environments. Its integration into the automated testing system eliminates up to 14 manual process steps, significantly reducing waiting times for laboratory personnel and allowing them to focus on higher-value activities such as test setup and data analysis.

The robot operates continuously, enabling around-the-clock processing of up to 60 samples. In addition to placing samples into testing equipment, it performs tasks such as cleaning measuring devices, generating reports, and organizing completed tests. This automation ensures consistent, reproducible workflows while improving the overall quality and comparability of test results across different locations.

Key features such as electrostatic discharge (ESD) certification, compact design, and high repeatability contributed to its selection for the application. The solution also offers flexibility for future adaptations, including the potential use of hygienic versions of the robot for specific industry requirements.

Currently, approximately ten automated testing systems equipped with the KR AGILUS are in operation worldwide, serving sectors including cosmetics and brewing. Anton Paar plans to expand the use of robotics across additional testing applications, particularly within the food and beverage industry, where further opportunities for automation have been identified.

The collaboration highlights the growing role of robotics in laboratory environments, where precision, efficiency, and reliability are essential. By combining KUKA’s robotics expertise with Anton Paar’s testing technology, the solution provides a scalable foundation for future innovations in automated laboratory workflows.
