Bayer expands global food security efforts through partnership with International Organization for Migration and large scale seed donations

Bayer donates over 225 metric tonnes of vegetable and corn seeds in 2026

(IN BRIEF) Bayer has expanded its partnership with the International Organization for Migration to deliver more than 225 metric tonnes of vegetable and corn seeds in 2026 to vulnerable communities worldwide. The initiative supports Bayer’s Zero Hunger Pledge and focuses on improving food and nutrition security for populations affected by displacement, climate change, and economic hardship. Ongoing projects in Zambia, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ukraine aim to enhance agricultural productivity, dietary diversity, and resilience through seed distribution, training, and infrastructure support. In Ukraine, the program will reach over 22,300 households this year, contributing to broader efforts that have already supported nearly 200,000 households. The collaboration underscores the role of partnerships in addressing global hunger and strengthening sustainable food systems.

(PRESS RELEASE) MONHEIM AM RHEIN, 28-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Bayer has expanded its collaboration with the International Organization for Migration to support vulnerable communities through a global seed donation initiative aimed at combating hunger and improving nutrition.

As part of the partnership, Bayer will donate more than 225 metric tonnes of vegetable and corn seeds in 2026, with an estimated value of approximately €875,000. The initiative forms a key component of Bayer’s Zero Hunger Pledge, reinforcing its broader mission to improve access to nutritious food and reduce malnutrition in underserved regions.

The seeds will be distributed through IOM’s global network, working in coordination with local missions and non-governmental organizations. The program targets communities facing food insecurity, climate challenges, and displacement, including migrants and internally displaced populations.

Current projects are underway in countries such as Zambia, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ukraine. In Nigeria and Zambia, seed donations—including onion, tomato, and squash varieties—are expected to support improved food security and dietary diversity for up to 1,000 vulnerable families in each country. In Kenya, corn seed distribution in Mandera County is designed to support both human and animal nutrition in a region heavily affected by prolonged drought. These efforts are complemented by agricultural training and infrastructure support to enhance long-term resilience.

The partnership also continues Bayer’s support for Ukraine, where seed distribution initiatives have been ongoing since 2022. In 2026, more than 22,300 households are set to receive packages containing vegetable and corn seeds, along with informational materials to support safe agricultural practices, including demining awareness. Overall, Bayer’s efforts have reached nearly 200,000 households in Ukraine since the start of the conflict.

By combining Bayer’s agricultural expertise with IOM’s global humanitarian reach, the initiative aims to strengthen food systems, improve nutrition outcomes, and support sustainable livelihoods. The collaboration highlights the importance of coordinated efforts between private sector and international organizations in addressing global food security challenges and building climate resilience.
