Ericsson Supports Three Sweden’s 5G Standalone Launch with End-to-End Cloud-Native Solutions

Ericsson Supports Three Sweden’s 5G Standalone Launch with End-to-End Cloud-Native Solutions

(IN BRIEF) Ericsson and Three Sweden have launched a commercial 5G Standalone network in Sweden, making Three Sweden the first operator in the country to offer 5G SA services. Powered end-to-end by Ericsson’s cloud-native 5G Core and Radio Access Network solutions, the deployment delivers improved coverage, capacity, speed, and low-latency performance for consumer and business customers in urban areas. The network also enables enterprise-focused capabilities such as network slicing and supports Fixed Wireless Access broadband, while offering improved energy efficiency and scalability to meet future connectivity demands.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 19-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Ericsson and Three Sweden have completed the commercial launch of a 5G Standalone (5G SA) network in Sweden, delivering next-generation mobile connectivity through an end-to-end deployment of Ericsson’s cloud-native 5G Core and Radio Access Network solutions. The launch positions Three Sweden as the first communications service provider in the country to offer 5G Standalone services, unlocking advanced capabilities for both consumer and enterprise customers.

The new 5G SA network significantly enhances mobile connectivity for Three Sweden’s subscribers in urban areas, offering expanded coverage, higher network capacity, lower latency, faster data speeds, and an overall improved user experience. These performance gains support more demanding applications and enable a new generation of digital services built on real-time, reliable connectivity.

Beyond consumer mobile broadband, the 5G SA deployment plays a central role in Three Sweden’s enterprise strategy. The network enables differentiated connectivity through network slicing, allowing customized service levels with defined performance characteristics for latency, reliability, and capacity. This capability supports business-critical operations and advanced enterprise use cases across industries, including IoT-enabled solutions and next-generation digital services.

Fixed Wireless Access is another key focus area for the new network. Using 5G SA technology, Three Sweden can deliver high-speed, high-capacity, and secure broadband services to homes and businesses, providing a competitive alternative to traditional fixed-line connections and expanding broadband reach without the need for extensive cable deployment.

The network is built on Ericsson’s cloud-native 5G architecture, combining core and radio technologies to deliver a programmable, software-driven platform designed for scalability and efficiency. Prior to commercial rollout, Three Sweden and Ericsson conducted comprehensive trials of the 5G SA technology, with the network officially entering commercial operation in December 2025.

The 5G Standalone architecture also brings improved energy efficiency per gigabyte compared to previous mobile generations, supporting sustainability goals while meeting rapidly growing data demand. By enabling flexible, intelligent network management, the deployment strengthens the foundation for innovation across Sweden’s digital economy.

Through this collaboration, Ericsson and Three Sweden aim to accelerate the adoption of advanced mobile services, support enterprise digital transformation, and deliver high-performance connectivity that meets the evolving needs of consumers, businesses, and society.
