(IN BRIEF) Ericsson and BT have jointly deployed an integrated private and public 5G network for the SailGP event in Portsmouth, linking venues, operations centers, and high‑speed F50 catamarans. Ericsson’s Private 5G and Cradlepoint routers handle over 53 billion data points per race day, while BT’s dedicated network slices ensure priority capacity for cameras, merchandise, and media uploads. The collaboration—extended with Sony for broadcast‑grade video—enables real‑time telemetry, live adjudication, and immersive AR experiences for fans.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 15-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Ericsson is powering a seamless blend of private and public 5G connectivity across all major sites of the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Portsmouth (19–20 July). The deployment features Ericsson Private 5G networks linking the SailGP Race Stadium, the twelve F50 catamarans, and multiple remote operations centers—including a technical hub 30 km from the venue. Each F50 boat is equipped with Ericsson Cradlepoint edge routers, which channel more than 53 billion data points per race day over the private network and a dedicated network slice on BT’s public 5G Standalone infrastructure.

This integrated solution supports real‑time IoT telemetry, live video streaming for umpire decision‑making, and instant tactical insights for the national teams. High‑frequency radio links, jointly trialed by Ericsson and BT, deliver gigabit‑level bandwidth to power 360° augmented reality experiences in the fan zone—bringing spectators closer to the action onboard the F50s.

In tandem, BT has deployed two tailored network slices on its EE‑powered public 5G network to guarantee priority bandwidth for event cameras, merchandising terminals, boat communications, and rapid media uploads. Collaborating with Sony, Ericsson and BT are also using 5G as the backbone for broadcast‑quality, low‑latency video encoding.
