Ericsson Unveils 5G Advanced Suite to Boost Network Efficiency and Enable New CSP Services

(IN BRIEF) Ericsson has launched a suite of seven 5G Advanced software products designed to empower communications service providers (CSPs) with high-performing programmable networks. These products leverage AI-driven automation, intent-based functionality, and service-aware RAN to optimize network performance, improve user experience, and enhance operational efficiency. The new software aims to help CSPs meet service-level agreements (SLAs) while enabling applications like location-based services, energy management, and mission-critical support. Major telecoms, including AT&T, Optus, Telstra, and T-Mobile, have welcomed these innovations, which are expected to drive new revenue and improve customer satisfaction.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 1-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has launched a new suite of seven 5G Advanced software products designed to empower communications service providers (CSPs) with programmable networks tailored to meet diverse business needs. Authored by Ericsson, the press release highlights these solutions as pivotal for CSPs to optimize network performance, improve customer experience, and drive operational efficiency.

Ericsson’s 5G Advanced lineup enriches radio access network (RAN) software with cutting-edge capabilities like AI-powered RAN, intent-driven networks, and Service-aware RAN. These advancements allow CSPs to fine-tune network behavior, ensuring compliance with service-level agreements (SLAs) and matching network responses to business and sustainability goals.

The newly introduced products include Real-time AI automation, Outdoor Positioning for location-based services, and Mission Critical Services tailored for sectors needing high resilience, such as public safety. Other products enhance energy efficiency, premium network performance, and device battery optimization—each aimed at boosting revenue, increasing user satisfaction, and easing operational demands.

According to Mårten Lerner, Ericsson’s Head of Product Area Networks, the new offerings leverage open network architectures, automation, and AI to empower CSPs globally. With around half of the world’s mobile 5G traffic outside China running on Ericsson networks, these tools enable CSPs to drive innovative applications, enhancing connectivity and fostering new business opportunities.

Global telecom leaders, including AT&T, Optus, Telstra, and T-Mobile, express strong support for Ericsson’s 5G Advanced offerings. They emphasize the software’s role in advancing their network infrastructure to better anticipate customer needs, optimize resources, and provide efficient, high-quality service. The products, available by early 2025, are compatible with Open RAN, Cloud RAN, and purpose-built RAN, building on Ericsson’s previous 5G capabilities, such as Critical IoT and Reduced Capability (RedCap) features.
