EIB and BNP Paribas Leasing Services join forces again with €200 million loan to boost SME and green investment in Poland

EIB and BNP Paribas Leasing Services join forces again with €200 million loan to boost SME and green investment in Poland

(IN BRIEF) The European Investment Bank has provided a €200 million loan to BNP Paribas Leasing Services to stimulate more than €500 million of new investment in Poland, with a minimum of 30% allocated to climate projects such as solar power, heat pumps, and energy efficiency. The agreement, the second of its kind following a 2021 deal, will support SMEs, Mid-Caps, housing associations, and individuals by offering more affordable financing. EIB Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska highlighted the importance of boosting SME competitiveness, while BNP Paribas Leasing Services CEO Jarosław Magielski emphasized the role of sustainable investment in the company’s mission.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 1-Sept-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a new €200 million loan agreement with BNP Paribas Leasing Services to expand financing opportunities for Polish companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Mid-Caps, housing associations, and private individuals. The initiative is expected to unlock more than €500 million in fresh investment across Poland, boosting competitiveness and supporting the country’s green transition.

Under the terms of the agreement, at least 30% of the loan volume will be directed toward climate-related projects, such as the deployment of heat pumps, solar energy installations, and energy efficiency upgrades in buildings. By promoting sustainable investment, the deal aligns with Poland’s climate goals and the European Union’s wider decarbonisation agenda.

This is the second EIB facility extended to BNP Paribas Leasing Services, following an earlier €200 million loan in 2021. The renewed partnership reflects the company’s strong performance in channeling EIB funds to Polish businesses, particularly SMEs, which form the backbone of the national economy and generate roughly three-quarters of Poland’s GDP.

EIB Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska commented: “This new agreement builds on our successful cooperation with BNP Paribas Leasing Services in supporting Polish firms. By expanding access to competitive financing for SMEs and Mid-Caps, we are reinforcing their financial stability, helping them grow, and strengthening the overall competitiveness of the Polish economy.”

Jarosław Magielski, CEO of BNP Paribas Leasing Services in Poland, added: “This milestone underlines our commitment to responding to the evolving needs of our clients. Partnering again with the EIB allows us to empower businesses to invest in innovative technologies and sustainable projects that reduce environmental impact and enhance long-term value.”

The facility will contribute to making competitive financing more accessible for a wide range of Polish businesses, encouraging investment that drives both economic development and environmental progress.

In Poland, the EIB signed €5.7 billion in new investments last year, nearly half of which was awarded to climate and environment projects, including energy transition.

All projects financed by the EIB Group are in line with the Paris Climate Agreement, as pledged in our Climate Bank Roadmap. Almost 60% of the EIB Group’s annual financing supports projects directly contributing to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and a healthier environment.
