Egis and ICOSH consortium secure contract extension to advance Sizewell C nuclear power project

Egis and ICOSH consortium secure contract extension to advance Sizewell C nuclear power project

(IN BRIEF) Egis and its consortium partners Amentum, SETEC Nucléaire, and Tractebel have been awarded a contract extension to support the development of Sizewell C, the UK’s next-generation nuclear power station. The ICOSH consortium will deliver the civil design for 12 nuclear island buildings, building on experience gained from Hinkley Point C and expanding its involvement in the project. By replicating proven EPR reactor designs, Sizewell C reduces development risk and accelerates progress toward UK energy targets. Once operational, the plant will provide clean electricity for six million homes, meeting 7% of national demand and significantly contributing to the UK’s energy security and 2050 net-zero ambitions.

(PRESS RELEASE) GUYANCOURT , 2-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Egis, together with consortium partners Amentum, SETEC Nucléaire, and Tractebel, has secured a contract extension to continue advancing the Sizewell C nuclear power station, one of the UK’s most important energy infrastructure projects. Located on the Suffolk coast, Sizewell C will deliver two European Pressurised Reactors (EPRs), reinforcing the UK’s commitment to a secure, low-carbon energy future.

The ICOSH consortium will build on its existing work to deliver the civil design of 12 nuclear island buildings – including the reactor, fuel, and safeguarding structures. These facilities are widely regarded as the most complex and safety-critical components of a nuclear plant, requiring precision engineering and compliance with rigorous regulatory standards.

The consortium has been supporting Sizewell C since 2020, drawing on its experience from Hinkley Point C, where it delivered geotechnical studies and civil engineering designs. Replication of proven designs from Hinkley Point C allows the Sizewell C project to reduce risk, increase efficiency, and accelerate delivery. Recent assignments for the consortium have included the design of the common raft and the pre-stressing gallery, integral elements of the project’s nuclear island.

Francois-Xavier Basselot, Managing Director Europe & Africa, Energy & Sustainable Cities at Egis, said: “Being a key partner in the delivery of Sizewell C reflects our commitment to supporting the nation’s sustainable energy future. The successful delivery of our initial scope laid a strong foundation, and this extension acknowledges the expertise of our consortium teams. We are proud to continue our collaboration on this nationally critical project.”

Tilly Spencer, Technical Director at Sizewell C, added: “Sizewell C builds directly on the innovation and lessons from Hinkley Point C, offering greater efficiency and reduced costs compared with a new reactor design. Maintaining continuity across the supply chain is essential, and we are pleased to have Egis and the ICOSH consortium once again contributing to this complex and critical phase.”

Once completed, Sizewell C will generate electricity for six million homes, meeting around 7% of the UK’s energy needs and operating for up to 60 years. It is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the UK’s 2050 net-zero target while strengthening long-term energy security.
