(IN BRIEF) Continental has upgraded its skai Parotega NF artificial leather upholstery by making staynu surface technology a standard feature, improving durability, resistance to soiling and ease of cleaning. The material, widely used in healthcare, hospitality and public buildings, now offers increased tear resistance through a stronger textile backing and improved environmental compatibility thanks to a phthalate-free plasticizer and solvent-free finishing. The staynu technology provides a protective surface layer that improves abrasion resistance and simplifies stain removal while maintaining hygiene standards. Continental has also expanded the color range with twelve new shades, bringing the total number of options to 43 and giving designers greater flexibility for contract interior applications.

(PRESS RELEASE) WEISSBACH, 27-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental has enhanced its well-established skai Parotega NF upholstery material by integrating staynu surface technology as a standard feature, improving durability, cleanliness and environmental performance while expanding design possibilities for contract interiors.

The artificial leather upholstery, known for its realistic leather appearance and pleasant texture, has long been widely used in high-demand environments such as healthcare facilities, care homes, hospitality venues and public buildings. The material continues to comply with the B1 fire protection classification, reflected by the NF designation for non-flammable properties, making it particularly suitable for architects and planners working on public infrastructure projects.

The integration of staynu technology significantly increases the material’s resistance to wear and contamination while simplifying cleaning and maintenance. The surface treatment creates a protective barrier that reduces the penetration of dirt and makes everyday stains easier to remove. The material also demonstrates strong resistance to cleaning agents and disinfectants, an important requirement for environments with strict hygiene standards.

In addition to improved surface protection, Continental has further strengthened the mechanical performance of skai Parotega NF by introducing a reinforced textile backing that increases tear resistance and enhances long-term durability in demanding applications.

Environmental aspects of the material have also been improved. The upgraded upholstery covering uses a phthalate-free plasticizer and benefits from a solvent-free finishing process, reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining performance characteristics.

Alongside technical improvements, Continental has expanded the design options for the material. The color collection now includes twelve additional shades, increasing the total range to 43 colors. The expanded palette includes contemporary tones such as chocolate, cloud white, deep sea and golden yellow, offering designers and architects greater flexibility when specifying interior materials.

Tatjana Grund, Product Manager at Continental’s Surface Solutions business area, described skai Parotega NF as a long-standing product within the portfolio that continues to evolve through targeted improvements while preserving its proven qualities.

The integrated staynu technology forms an invisible protective layer that enhances resistance to abrasion and extends the service life of upholstered surfaces. The coating allows stubborn stains such as ink marks, food residues and cosmetic products to be removed more easily while maintaining the material’s appearance over time.

With its combination of improved durability, ease of maintenance, fire safety compliance and expanded design options, skai Parotega NF is designed to meet the requirements of modern contract and interior design applications.
