Continental showcases most advanced city bus tire yet at Busworld Europe with focus on e-mobility and sustainability

Continental is consistently aligning its development for the bus segment with the megatrends of urbanization and emission-free mobility.

(IN BRIEF) Continental has unveiled the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT, its most advanced city bus tire, at Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels. Made with up to 60 percent renewable, recycled, and ISCC PLUS mass-balance-certified materials, the tire reduces rolling resistance by 25 percent, extends e-bus range by up to 15 percent, and delivers 15 percent higher mileage than the previous generation. With reduced external noise, advanced tread design, and integrated digital sensors for predictive maintenance, the tire addresses the needs of sustainable, efficient, and low-emission urban transport. An externally certified lifecycle assessment shows an 11 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions compared to the Conti Urban HA 3, reinforcing Continental’s commitment to both environmental and operational performance.

(PRESS RELEASE) HANOVER, 17-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental is presenting the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT at Busworld Europe in Brussels, marking a major step forward in sustainable tire technology for public transport. Designed specifically for the challenges of urban mobility, the new tire combines advanced performance features with a strong sustainability profile: up to 60 percent of the materials are renewable, recycled, or ISCC PLUS mass-balance-certified.

With rolling resistance reduced by 25 percent, the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT helps electric buses operate more efficiently, extending driving range by as much as 15 percent. A new tread compound also delivers up to 15 percent longer mileage compared to its predecessor, the Conti Urban HA 3. At the same time, the tire maintains strong safety credentials, with proven EU label class B wet grip and class A for external rolling noise – a crucial factor for quieter e-bus fleets in densely populated cities.

The material mix includes natural rubber, renewable fillers, recycled synthetic rubber, and rubber sourced from mechanically processed end-of-life tires. Verified through an externally certified lifecycle assessment, the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT achieves an 11 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with the previous model. The use of ISCC PLUS-certified materials ensures traceability and supports the transition to a more circular, climate-friendly supply chain.

Alongside its sustainable design, the tire comes with Continental’s latest embedded sensor technology, allowing fleets to connect instantly to the digital tire management system ContiConnect. By providing real-time data on tire pressure, temperature, and mileage, the system enables predictive maintenance, reduces downtime, and optimizes operational costs.

The Conti Urban HA 5 NXT is available in size 275/70 R 22.5 and comes standard with pre-installed sensors for original equipment, with optional sensors available in the replacement market. It complements the existing Conti Urban HA 5 line introduced in 2024, expanding Continental’s offering for urban fleets.
