bp Trinidad and Tobago Announces First Gas from Mento Development, Marks Key Milestone

(IN BRIEF) bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has announced the successful delivery of first gas from the Mento development, a 50/50 joint venture with EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd. The development, which features a 12-slot attended facility off the southeast coast of Trinidad, is part of bp’s strategy to increase upstream production, contributing to the expected 250,000 boed peak net production from ten major projects worldwide. With further drilling underway, the Mento project is a key milestone in bpTT’s ongoing efforts to boost gas production in the region.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 29-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) is pleased to announce the successful delivery of first gas from the Mento development, marking a significant milestone in the project. This achievement comes with the connection of the initial discovery well, and the drilling campaign for the remaining seven gross wells on the platform is now set to commence.

The Mento development is a 50/50 joint venture between EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd (EOG), the operator, and bpTT. The development features a 12-slot, attended facility located in acreage jointly licensed by both companies off the southeast coast of Trinidad.

Mento is one of bp’s ten major upstream projects expected to start up globally between 2025 and 2027. These projects are part of bp’s strategy to increase its upstream production, with the combined peak net production from these projects projected to reach 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed). Mento’s production will play a crucial role in helping bp achieve this target.

The platform for Mento was constructed at the TOFCO fabrication yard in La Brea, Trinidad.

bpTT President, David Campbell, commented: “I am proud to announce first gas from Mento alongside our partner EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd. This marks our second start-up this year, and it is a clear demonstration of the benefits of collaboration in bringing much-needed gas into production. Our partnership with EOG is progressing well, and we look forward to advancing our next joint venture project, Coconut.”

The Mento project is part of a series of successful developments delivered through the joint venture between bpTT and EOG. Previous developments include:

  • EMZ (2011)
  • Sercan (2016)
  • Banyan (2017)

Currently, bpTT and EOG are working together on the Coconut gas development, which is expected to start up in 2027.

bpTT is majority-owned by bp (70%) with Repsol holding the remaining 30%. bpTT’s key operations are located off Trinidad’s east coast, where the company operates 12 offshore platforms, three subsea installations, and two onshore processing facilities.
