(IN BRIEF) Borealis and AKVA group are preparing to showcase the Polarcirkel™ boat at K Fair 2025, highlighting their collaborative strides in sustainable marine technology. The boat’s hull is being built from BorSafe™ PE100-RC, produced with Bornewables™ feedstock containing 90% renewable content, reducing CO₂ emissions by about 1.9 kg per kilogram versus fossil-based materials. The flat base comes from Röchling Industrial’s BioBoom® range, also using BorSafe™ HE3490-LS on a Bornewables platform, and is distributed in Norway by Astrup under strict ISCC PLUS compliance. This integration of renewable plastics not only preserves the Polarcirkel’s renowned durability in extreme conditions but also significantly lowers its carbon footprint. Attendees at K Fair 2025 will see firsthand how these innovations are propelling the marine sector toward a more sustainable future.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 27-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Borealis and AKVA group are joining forces to unveil their latest milestone in eco-friendly marine engineering: the Polarcirkel™ vessel. Crafted in AKVA group’s state-of-the-art facility, this pioneering boat demonstrates how cutting-edge production methods and renewable materials are steering the maritime industry toward a greener horizon.

At the heart of the Polarcirkel™ is its hull, meticulously constructed by AKVA group’s expert technicians using BorSafe™ polyethylene PE100-RC. Not only is this grade renowned for its toughness in saltwater conditions, but it’s also produced with Bornewables™ feedstock—boasting 90% renewable content through a mass-balance certification. By replacing fossil-derived inputs, each kilogram of this material slashes CO₂ emissions by approximately 1.9 kg compared to conventional alternatives.

Complementing the hull is the boat’s flat base—or “sheet”—supplied by Röchling Industrial under its BioBoom® label. Manufactured with BorSafe™ HE3490-LS and the same Bornewables feedstock, the sheet underscores the shift to bio-based plastics. In Norway, Röchling’s partner Astrup oversees delivery and guarantees full ISCC PLUS chain-of-custody compliance, ensuring transparency from raw material to finished boat.

Together, these renewable components exemplify a united commitment to sustainable innovation across the value chain. Engineered to endure extremes—from Arctic ice to tropical seas—the Polarcirkel™ will uphold its legendary durability while significantly diminishing environmental impact.

Experience this game-changing vessel in person at K Fair 2025. We invite you to witness firsthand how Borealis and AKVA group are charting a new course for low-carbon marine solutions. Set sail with us into the future of sustainable marine technology.
