ANDRITZ Secures New Order to Modernize Cartaseta’s Tissue Machine Combustion System for Enhanced Efficiency

Cartaseta´s tissue production facility in Gretzenbach, Switzerland

(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ has received an order from Cartaseta AG to upgrade the combustion system on a tissue machine at its Gretzenbach mill in Switzerland. This marks the fifteenth such upgrade by ANDRITZ in five years, with start-up expected in the third quarter of 2025. The upgrade includes new hood burners, gas valve trains, and an advanced burner management system that electronically controls the air/gas ratio to optimize combustion for the PM5 tissue machine. According to Cartaseta’s Managing Director, Roger Koch, the system will boost efficiency, reduce emissions, lower costs, and enhance operational safety and reliability, thereby strengthening the company’s competitive edge. Area Sales Manager Guido Lenzi from ANDRITZ highlighted that the project is a strategic investment aimed at improving energy efficiency and sustainability, achieved through a customized approach developed in close collaboration with the customer’s mill operators.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 26-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — International technology leader ANDRITZ has secured a new order from Cartaseta AG to upgrade the combustion system of a tissue machine at its Gretzenbach mill in Switzerland. This project, which marks the fifteenth such upgrade executed by ANDRITZ over the past five years, is scheduled to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2025.

The upgrade will encompass the installation of state-of-the-art hood burners, innovative gas valve trains, and a modern burner management system designed for precise electronic control of the air/gas mixture. These improvements are engineered to optimize the combustion process across the complete output range of the PM5 tissue machine, thereby enhancing performance and efficiency.

Roger Koch, Managing Director of Cartaseta, expressed his enthusiasm for the upgrade: “This advanced combustion system significantly boosts our tissue machine’s efficiency and reduces emissions, while also delivering substantial cost savings over time. The improved safety and reliability of the system instill confidence in our operations, enabling us to sustain high production levels. Overall, this upgrade reinforces our competitiveness and paves the way for a more sustainable and profitable future.”

The implementation of this cutting-edge combustion system is expected to dramatically improve burner performance under all operating conditions. It will increase the overall energy efficiency of the tissue machine, reduce CO₂ emissions in line with regulatory requirements, and maximize both the safety and reliability of the equipment. The project is a collaborative effort, with the experienced ANDRITZ team working closely with Cartaseta’s mill operators to minimize downtime and ensure a seamless upgrade.

Guido Lenzi, Area Sales Manager at ANDRITZ, commented, “We are delighted to launch a new phase of collaboration with Cartaseta.
