BRUSSELS, 31-May-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Today, the European Commission appointed Alain Dumort as the new Head of the European Commission Regional Office in Marseille. He will take up office on 1 June 2016.

The European Commission appointed Alain Dumort as the new Head of the European Commission’s Regional Office in Marseille (France). He will take up office on 1 June 2016 bringing 16 years of Commission experience in the area of media and communications to the post. Since January 2015, Alain Dumort has been the Head of Unit responsible for Corporate Communication Contracts and Services at the Directorate-General for Communication.

He was awarded a ‘Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies’ in Energy Economics and Natural Resources from Grenoble University (1983), a Teacher national certificate (C.A.P.E.S) in Economics and Social Sciences the same yearand a diploma in Political Science at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Grenoble-Paris (1982). He started his career in 1983 as aResearcher and Assistant teacher in Natural Resources Economics in Grenoble and Brussels (ULB) Universities.

After five years as Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau d’Etudes Techniques, Economiques et Prospectives, specialised in energy market modelling (Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg), Alain Dumort started at the European Commission in 1990 as an economist and Principal Administrator at the Directorate-General Telecommunications, Information Market and Research.

In 2000, Alain Dumort was appointed Head of Unit responsible for Communication at the Directorate-General Education and Culture. Since then he has assumed several responsibilities as Head of Unit at the Directorate-General Communication. He was responsible forthe Audio-visual Service of the European Commission, Communication Strategies as well as Media Networks and the Communication Market in the Directorate-General for Communication. In 2005, Alain Dumort was also Acting Director for Communication, Media and Services.
