Bundeswehr Provider Orders Mid-Three-Digit Fleet of Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6×6 Trucks

(IN BRIEF) BwFuhrparkService GmbH has awarded Daimler Truck a contract for a mid-three-digit number of Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6×6 logistics trucks, set for delivery by May 2026. These Euro VI vehicles, featuring a ten-ton payload, 0.9 m water fording, and all-wheel drive, will arrive in hümS military specification with camouflage livery. A 15-foot interchangeable platform body from Sonntag Fahrzeugbau enhances versatility and rapid load changes. The order taps Daimler’s Franco-German production network—Gaggenau, Mannheim, Wörth, and Molsheim—to combine mass production with specialized outfitting.

(PRESS RELEASE) LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN, 12-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — BwFuhrparkService GmbH, the Bundeswehr’s official mobility provider, has selected Daimler Truck to supply a mid-three-digit fleet of Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6×6 logistics vehicles, each fitted with all-wheel drive and tailored military equipment. The trucks will bolster Germany’s national and alliance defence transport capabilities and are scheduled for delivery by the end of May 2026.

Franziska Cusumano, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, commented, “This contract underscores BwFuhrparkService’s confidence in our robust technology and dependability amid evolving security demands. Following recent orders from NATO partners like Lithuania and Canada, we’re honored to extend our proven platform to the Bundeswehr.”

Daniel Zittel, Head of Defence Sales at Daimler Truck, added, “Over the next year, we will customize, commission, and deliver these Arocs vehicles alongside Sonntag Fahrzeugbau, then support them through long-term service agreements. Soldiers need trucks that perform without compromise—in off-road terrain, under pressure, and in unpredictable conditions. The Arocs 6×6’s high ground clearance, ten-ton payload, water fording capability, and Euro VI OM 470 engine ensure reliable performance wherever duty calls.”

Each Arocs 6×6 is a near-standard commercial chassis enhanced with camouflage livery and modular military fittings (hümS specification), enabling civilian remarketing once military service concludes. A 15-foot interchangeable platform body from Sonntag Fahrzeugbau offers rapid load swaps and stable transport in extreme terrain, while preserving the Arocs’ manoeuvrability and off-road prowess.

Production leverages Daimler Truck’s Franco-German network: axles and transmissions from Gaggenau, engines from Mannheim, and final assembly—including the cab-chassis “marriage”—in Wörth. Vehicles then undergo military-specific outfitting and camouflage coating in Molsheim. Sonntag Fahrzeugbau completes the swap-body frame, cab equipment, and final paint, marrying large-scale efficiency with bespoke customization to meet the Bundeswehr’s stringent requirements.
