(PRESS RELEASE)  ST. GALLEN, 14-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — On 11 March 2025, the University of St.Gallen (HSG) proudly conferred the title of honorary professor of public law on Dr Andrea Caroni. With a robust academic career that began with his summa cum laude doctorate, Dr Caroni has been a key lecturer at HSG’s Law School since 2013. Notably, he co-founded and continues to organize the highly popular course “HSG in the Federal Parliament – Lawmaking in Practice” alongside Prof. Dr Stefan G. Schmid. His scholarly contributions include co-authoring commentaries for the fourth edition of the St.Gallen Commentary and the Commentary on the Parliament Act, of which he is a co-editor.

Dr Caroni’s expertise is further demonstrated by his extensive involvement in civil society, where he serves as president of the Swiss Society for Parliamentary Issues (SGP), and holds board positions at both the Swiss Society for Legislation (SGG) and the Swiss Association of Procedural and Institutional Law of the Judiciary (SVVOR). His career in politics is equally distinguished. Elected to the National Council in 2011, he transitioned to the Council of States in 2015, contributing significantly through various parliamentary commissions—some of which he has chaired. On 2 December 2024, he was elected president of the Council of States for the 2024/2025 term.

The honorary professorship not only acknowledges Dr Caroni’s impressive academic and political accomplishments but also his unique ability to bridge the gap between legal theory, practical application, and societal engagement. His knack for making complex legal issues accessible, combined with his extensive experience in public service and unwavering commitment to the rule of law, makes him an inspiring mentor for the next generation of legal professionals. Dr Caroni’s appointment reinforces HSG’s connection to the world of political practice, ensuring that students receive high-level academic instruction enriched with real-world insights into the application of public law.
