(IN BRIEF) VARD, a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, has signed a contract to design and build an advanced Energy Construction Vessel (ECV) for Wind Energy Construction AS, with delivery slated for Q2 2027. The vessel, built at Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam, will support offshore wind and subsea markets. This is the sixth vessel ordered by Norwind Offshore founders from VARD.

(PRESS RELEASE) TRIESTE, 6-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — VARD, the Norwegian subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group and a leading company in the construction of specialized vessels, has secured a contract to design and build a state-of-the-art Energy Construction Vessel (ECV) for Wind Energy Construction AS, a Norwegian company co-founded by the founders of Norwind Offshore AS. The agreement also includes an option for an additional vessel.

Scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2027, the new ECV will be constructed, outfitted, commissioned, and delivered from the Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam. The vessel will measure 111.5 meters in length and 22.4 meters in beam, and it will accommodate up to 120 people. Based on the VARD 3 11 design, the vessel is specifically tailored for the offshore wind and subsea markets, performing tasks such as inspection, maintenance, and repair of pipelines, as well as the construction and installation of infrastructure both above and below sea level.

This vessel will be VARD’s first to feature a permanently installed Electric Controlled Motion Compensated (ECMC) gangway with integrated 3D-compensated crane capabilities. Additionally, it will be equipped with a 150-ton motion-compensated offshore crane, enhancing its support for the growing renewable energy market.

This order marks the sixth vessel that the owners of Norwind Offshore have commissioned from VARD, following five Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOV) previously delivered.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, stated, “This new order further confirms our technological and industrial leadership in the offshore wind sector, which is experiencing robust growth and offers promising prospects.
