(IN BRIEF) A new partnership, strengthened by the UAE-France High-Level Business Council and the UAE-France Framework for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, is set to bolster clean energy access in emerging markets. Masdar, TotalEnergies, and EPointZero have formalized a collaboration to enhance energy systems transformation across Africa and Southeast Asia, while addressing India’s clean energy goals through solar, wind, and energy storage initiatives. This strategic alliance reinforces the UAE-France bond and accelerates global decarbonization efforts.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 18-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — A significant collaboration between Masdar, TotalEnergies, and EPointZero was sealed with the signing of a Framework for Action (FFA) agreement, designed to accelerate clean energy access in emerging markets across Africa and Asia. The announcement came on the heels of a landmark UAE-France summit, where the two nations renewed their commitment to advancing climate action, energy solutions, and artificial intelligence.

The agreement, which includes Masdar, TotalEnergies, and EPointZero, focuses on enhancing sustainable electricity delivery to communities in Africa and supporting the continent’s long-term energy transformation. Additionally, the trio will explore new clean energy ventures in Southeast Asia. TotalEnergies and EPointZero will collaborate on advancing India’s clean energy initiatives, with a particular focus on solar, wind, and energy storage, driving the country’s decarbonization progress.

The signing ceremony took place at the third plenary meeting of the UAE-France High-Level Business Council in Paris on February 16, with high-ranking officials including H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE, and Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, in attendance.

This FFA agreement exemplifies the growing collaboration between the UAE and France, aligning key global players in clean energy and sustainability. The two nations, bolstered by their Comprehensive Strategic Energy Partnership, have made great strides in promoting low-carbon solutions, with both governments keen on implementing private-sector projects that drive economic and social growth in emerging economies.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, remarked, “With the robust UAE-France partnership, we are proud to support clean energy access in Africa and Southeast Asia. This agreement highlights our shared goals of sustainable progress, socio-economic empowerment, and a greener global energy landscape.”

Stéphane Michel, President for Gas Renewable and Power at TotalEnergies, emphasized, “For over 80 years, TotalEnergies has been a key partner in Abu Dhabi’s energy sector. Extending our collaboration to renewable energy projects in Asia and Africa is an exciting step forward. By combining the strengths of Masdar, EPointZero, and TotalEnergies, we will significantly enhance our impact in these emerging markets.”

H.E. Mariam Almheiri, Group CEO of 2PointZero, added, “This partnership strengthens UAE-France relations while accelerating the transition to clean energy. Together, we are scaling up renewable energy and storage solutions across India, Africa, and Asia, providing reliable and sustainable power for millions.”

The UAE-France High-Level Business Council, formed in 2022, continues to play a vital role in fostering economic collaboration and promoting cross-investment projects. As the two nations work together to shape a sustainable future, this partnership underscores the importance of international cooperation in achieving global climate and energy objectives.
