TotalEnergies and Oil India Limited Partner to Tackle Methane Emissions with Advanced AUSEA Technology

(IN BRIEF) TotalEnergies and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a Cooperation Agreement to use TotalEnergies’ AUSEA technology to detect and measure methane emissions at OIL’s sites in India. This partnership aligns with OIL’s recent commitment to the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), which aims to achieve net-zero operations by 2050 and near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030. AUSEA, a drone-mounted gas analyzer developed by TotalEnergies, is one of the most accurate technologies for methane detection, capable of identifying emissions at difficult-to-reach points. Both companies are working together to reduce methane emissions, contributing to the global efforts of the OGDC.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 19-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — TotalEnergies and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a Cooperation Agreement to implement methane emissions detection and measurement campaigns at OIL’s sites in India, utilizing TotalEnergies’ groundbreaking AUSEA technology. This collaboration is part of a broader effort to combat methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, following OIL’s recent commitment to the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), a global initiative launched at COP28, co-chaired by TotalEnergies’ CEO.

The OGDC aims to achieve net-zero operations by 2050, with specific goals of near-zero upstream methane emissions and the elimination of routine flaring by 2030. As part of its commitment, OGDC members pledge to measure and publicly report progress in reducing emissions. In line with these objectives, TotalEnergies has made its AUSEA technology available to other OGDC members, offering a proven solution for detecting, measuring, and ultimately reducing methane emissions across a variety of assets.

AUSEA Technology: A Breakthrough in Methane Emissions Detection

AUSEA, developed by TotalEnergies in collaboration with its R&D partners, is a unique gas analyzer mounted on a drone. The system utilizes a dual sensor capable of detecting methane and carbon dioxide emissions while pinpointing their sources. AUSEA represents a significant leap forward in methane detection compared to conventional methods, particularly because it can access difficult-to-reach emission points across both offshore and onshore industrial facilities. As one of the most accurate technologies in the industry, AUSEA has already been deployed for emissions campaigns on every continent.

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, remarked on the growing success of the collaboration:
“We are thrilled that OIL has joined the expanding network of national companies working with us, adopting our AUSEA technology. This is a strong indication that the OGDC initiative, launched at COP28, is gathering momentum, with industrial best practices driving the effort toward near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030.”

OIL’s Commitment to Global Emissions Reduction

Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director of Oil India Limited, highlighted OIL’s dedication to reducing emissions and supporting global climate goals:
“By joining the OGDC, OIL reinforces India’s commitment to the global community’s sustainability goals, while also reaffirming our responsibility to reduce emissions. We are pleased to work alongside TotalEnergies, a pioneer in methane emissions detection, to help achieve these critical objectives.”

This agreement marks another important milestone in the ongoing global effort to mitigate methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, with TotalEnergies’ AUSEA technology playing a key role in supporting the OGDC’s ambitious goals.
