Skanska to Build Sustainable Parking Facility in $450M Logan Airport Modernization Project

(IN BRIEF) Skanska has secured a $450 million contract with the Massachusetts Port Authority to modernize Boston’s Logan Airport Terminal E. The project includes constructing a 67,400-square-meter parking garage with 5,000 spaces, a vehicular bridge to the central parking complex, and a pedestrian bridge connecting Terminals E and C. Roadway modifications will enhance accessibility, while solar panels and Parksmart certification underscore the project’s sustainability goals. Construction begins in early 2025 and is expected to conclude by 2028, aiming to improve infrastructure and environmental standards.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 13-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Skanska has entered into an agreement with the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) to carry out significant modernization efforts at Logan Airport’s Terminal E in Boston. The initiative includes the construction of a state-of-the-art parking garage and additional infrastructure upgrades. This contract, valued at USD 450 million (approximately SEK 4.7 billion), will be reflected in Skanska’s US order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2024.

This ambitious project, part of Massport’s NCEC Program, encompasses the development of a new Terminal E Parking Garage spanning more than 67,400 square meters (725,000 square feet). The multi-level facility will provide 5,000 parking spaces and designated areas for ground transportation on the lower levels. The design aims to improve both capacity and accessibility for travelers.

Key infrastructure enhancements include constructing a vehicular bridge connecting the new garage to the central parking complex and a pedestrian bridge to link Terminals E and C. Additionally, modifications to the Arrival and Departure roadways are planned to ensure seamless access to the new parking facility.

Sustainability features are central to this project. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels will be installed on the façade and roof of the parking garage to reduce its electricity consumption. The facility will also pursue Parksmart certification, a distinction awarded by the Green Building Certification Institute for sustainable parking structures.

Construction is set to commence in the first quarter of 2025, with completion anticipated by 2028. This development marks a significant step in enhancing Logan Airport’s infrastructure while prioritizing environmental responsibility and traveler convenience.
