(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 10-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens Mobility has announced plans to establish North America’s first high-speed rail production facility in Horseheads, New York. The $60 million investment will create a nearly 300,000 square foot manufacturing site and generate around 300 new jobs. The facility will produce the American Pioneer 220 trainsets, the first true high-speed trains built in the U.S., for the Brightline West rail line connecting Las Vegas and Southern California.

This historic move marks a significant milestone in the future of American rail transportation, with the Horseheads facility set to begin production in 2026. Siemens will partner with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) to ensure union representation and support high-quality job creation.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer praised the investment, calling it a major step in building America’s high-speed rail future and creating economic opportunities for Upstate New York. Brightline CEO Michael Reininger highlighted the project’s potential to set a new standard in U.S. transportation, with trains capable of reaching speeds of over 300 km/h.

The Siemens American Pioneer 220 trains will feature cutting-edge technology, including gearless propulsion systems and digital rail solutions, offering passengers a superior experience with high-speed internet, comfortable seating, and accessible designs. Siemens’ long-standing presence in New York and its vast experience in rail systems make this new venture a natural progression in the company’s efforts to modernize U.S. infrastructure.
