Siemens’ Net-Zero Targets Validated by Science Based Targets Initiative for 2030 and 2050

Siemens’ Net-Zero Targets Validated by Science Based Targets Initiative for 2030 and 2050

(IN BRIEF) Siemens has received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its 2030 and 2050 net-zero emissions targets, confirming their alignment with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard. Siemens aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2030 and maintain that reduction through 2050. For Scope 3 emissions in its value chain, the company plans to reduce emissions by 30% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, all compared to a 2019 baseline. This validation highlights Siemens’ commitment to sustainability and aligning with the Paris Agreement.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 19-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens has reached a significant milestone in its sustainability journey, with its net-zero targets for 2030 and 2050 officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation confirms that Siemens’ near- and long-term emissions reduction goals align with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard, a leading global framework for corporate climate targets.

Siemens’ targets cover Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, addressing both the company’s operations and its value chain. By 2030, Siemens aims to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions from its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 90% and cut Scope 3 emissions from its value chain by 30%, all compared to a 2019 baseline. For the longer term, Siemens pledges to maintain a 90% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and achieve a 90% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2050.

Eva Riesenhuber, Global Head of Sustainability at Siemens AG, emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, “This validation is a strong reflection of Siemens’ dedication to a low-carbon future. It not only strengthens our sustainability goals but also enhances our ability to support our customers and suppliers in transitioning to a more resilient, low-carbon world.”

The SBTi’s validation reinforces Siemens’ commitment to aligning with the Paris Agreement and leading the industrial sector toward a sustainable future.
