Nokia and TIM Brasil Expand Strategic Partnership to Modernize 5G Network and Enable AI Driven Enterprise Services

(IN BRIEF) Nokia and TIM Brasil have expanded their partnership to modernize TIM Brasil’s 5G network across regions representing about 42 percent of Brazil’s population. The project will extend network upgrades beyond São Paulo to 14 additional states and will include deployment of Nokia AirScale solutions, Massive MIMO radios, and AI-based network automation tools. The modernization aims to improve performance, increase energy efficiency, and prepare the network for AI-driven services and future technologies such as 5G Advanced and 6G. The partnership also includes development of enterprise AI applications using Nokia’s AI-RAN solutions and NVIDIA platforms, supporting industries such as mining, manufacturing, and logistics.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 2-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia and TIM Brasil have expanded their partnership to modernize TIM Brasil’s 5G network infrastructure across major regions of the country, a project that will cover areas representing roughly 42 percent of Brazil’s population. Following earlier investments in São Paulo, the modernization program will now extend to 14 additional states across four regions, strengthening network capabilities and enabling new AI-driven connectivity services for enterprise customers.

The upgraded network is intended to deliver improved performance and efficiency while lowering energy consumption and supporting the future introduction of AI-based radio access network capabilities. The initiative is designed to enhance customer experience and reinforce TIM Brasil’s role in advancing digital transformation across the country.

Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy advanced solutions from its AirScale portfolio to support TIM Brasil’s 5G infrastructure. The deployment includes AirScale baseband equipment, Habrok Massive MIMO radios, Pandion Remote Radio Heads, AirScale small cell technologies, and a range of professional services covering installation, optimization, and ongoing support. The new equipment is designed to provide expanded coverage, improved indoor connectivity, and scalable network capacity while contributing to sustainability targets through improved energy efficiency.

Alberto Griselli, Chief Executive Officer of TIM Brasil, said the modernization program will support the delivery of more efficient and automated networks capable of enabling new digital services. He noted that the project is expected to improve connectivity for millions of users while also supporting enterprise customers with solutions that enhance productivity and support digital transformation across industries.

TIM Brasil will also deploy Nokia’s MantaRay Self-Organizing Network solution, which uses analytics and artificial intelligence to automate network management tasks, improve performance, and reduce operating costs. The system is designed to help manage the growing complexity of 5G networks while maintaining consistent service quality.

The modernization program will include major urban and regional markets such as Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Goiânia, Manaus, Belém, and São Luís, providing faster and more reliable connectivity across a wide geographic area. The new infrastructure will also support future technology evolution, including 5G Advanced, 6G, and advanced AI-based network services, helping support industrial development and improved digital access throughout Brazil.

Justin Hotard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nokia, said that as artificial intelligence becomes an increasingly important driver of network demand, telecommunications infrastructure must evolve to support AI-native capabilities. He noted that the expanded partnership with TIM Brasil will introduce greater intelligence and automation into the network and support large-scale AI-driven services.

The companies also plan to expand collaboration on AI-based enterprise solutions. Areas of development include intelligent network slicing, image and video analytics, voice recognition, and threat detection technologies designed for industries such as mining, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, and transportation. These capabilities will be supported by Nokia’s AI-RAN solutions and will leverage GPU-accelerated platforms developed through Nokia’s partnership with NVIDIA.

Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President of Telecommunications at NVIDIA, said that artificial intelligence is becoming essential infrastructure across industries and that AI-native networks will create new opportunities for innovation and growth. He noted that the collaboration with Nokia and TIM Brasil supports development of AI-RAN and edge AI applications built on software-based network architectures.
