(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 5-June-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant achievement for both Finnish Valtra, a global tractor manufacturer under AGCO Corporation, and Neste (HEL: NESTE), the world’s leading producer of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel, the companies celebrate the milestone of utilizing 5 million liters of Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ at Valtra’s Suolahti factory in Finland. This renewable diesel has been employed not only as a factory-fill fuel but also in testing and in the factory’s forklift trucks. By making this switch from fossil fuels, Valtra has successfully prevented over 15,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, an amount equivalent to emissions produced by a Valtra T Series tractor running continuously for 390,000 hours under specific conditions.

The partnership between Neste and Valtra dates back to 2017 when Valtra became the pioneering tractor factory globally to introduce Neste MY Renewable Diesel in its new tractors. This innovative fuel has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75% or even up to 95% over the fuel’s life cycle compared to traditional fossil diesel.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is manufactured entirely from renewable raw materials like used cooking oil and animal fat sourced from food industry waste, making it a sustainable solution. These new Valtra tractors, powered by Neste MY Renewable Diesel, are exported from Finland to more than 75 countries worldwide.

Mikko Lehikoinen, Managing Director of Valtra EME, emphasizes Valtra’s dedication to sustainability, highlighting their various initiatives focused on emission reduction, energy consumption, waste management, and resource efficiency. Lehikoinen notes that the decision to transition to Neste MY Renewable Diesel as the primary fuel demonstrates their commitment to reducing emissions and sets an example for tens of thousands of farmers globally, showcasing that their tractors can operate efficiently on renewable diesel.

Joni Pihlström, Vice President of Marketing & Services at Neste, expresses pride in the longstanding partnership with Valtra and the positive impact of Neste MY Renewable Diesel in supporting Valtra’s emission reduction targets. Pihlström also underlines the importance of expanding collaborations, such as joining the Finnish Future Farm project, to further promote lower-emission solutions and combat climate change effectively.
