Metso Expands Screening Portfolio with Advanced Flip Flow Technology for Energy Efficient and Precise Material Classification

(IN BRIEF) Metso has launched the GFF Series™ flip-flow screens, designed to enhance fine dry screening performance for challenging materials in mining and aggregates applications. The new solution enables precise classification, reduces energy consumption and water usage, and improves overall circuit efficiency, particularly in HPGR-based processes. Featuring a hybrid design that minimizes downtime and maintenance needs, the GFF Series supports a wide range of industries beyond mining. The launch strengthens Metso’s comprehensive offering in comminution and reinforces its role as a full flowsheet solutions provider.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 10-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Metso has introduced its new GFF Series™ flip-flow screens, designed to improve fine dry screening performance in challenging conditions, particularly for materials that are difficult or moisture-prone. The launch expands Metso’s screening technology portfolio and supports more efficient operations in both mining and aggregates applications.

The GFF Series is engineered to deliver precise and stable classification, enabling finer cut sizes required in processes such as sand production and high-pressure grinding roll (HPGR) circuits. By improving screening accuracy, the solution helps reduce circulating loads, enhance energy efficiency, and minimize water usage, ultimately boosting productivity in comminution and fine product manufacturing.

A key feature of the new system is its hybrid design, combining flip-flow and conventional screening deck technologies. This approach, together with high excitation forces, allows the equipment to achieve cut sizes down to 0.5 mm in dry applications and 0.3 mm in wet conditions. The design also reduces issues such as blinding and pegging, which are common in fine screening, ensuring more consistent performance and less downtime.

Michael Gyberg explained that the new screens address customer demand for high-performance solutions capable of handling fine and moist materials without requiring wet screening. He highlighted the role of the GFF Series in improving classification accuracy and supporting overall circuit efficiency.

In HPGR and downstream grinding processes, the improved classification provided by the GFF Series leads to better particle size distribution and more efficient energy use. This enables a greater share of the workload to be handled by energy-efficient technologies, reducing overall energy consumption and improving throughput.

Stefan Sakendorf noted that the finer cut sizes enabled by flip-flow technology are particularly beneficial for next-generation HPGR circuits. Enhanced classification supports the adoption of more efficient processing configurations, including advanced grinding solutions.

Beyond mining and aggregates, the GFF Series is also suited for a wide range of industries, including biomass processing, fertilizers, industrial minerals, and construction waste recycling. The equipment’s robust design and easy maintenance access contribute to higher availability and lower total cost of ownership.

The launch builds on Metso’s broader strategy to offer comprehensive, end-to-end solutions across the comminution process. Following the introduction of the Grande Series screens in 2025, the GFF Series further strengthens Metso’s position as a full flowsheet partner, combining screening technologies with its HPGR systems, grinding mills, and digital tools to deliver improved efficiency and sustainability outcomes.
