Sandvik strengthens leadership team with appointment of experienced mining executive Patrick Murphy

He will succeed Mats Eriksson, who is stepping down ahead of his retirement. Murphy has been with Sandvik since 2001 and has held several senior leadership roles across different regions and divisions, including Rotary Drilling and Underground Drilling. His extensive experience and industry knowledge are expected to support Sandvik’s continued growth and leadership in the mining sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 27-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Sandvik AB has announced the appointment of Patrick Murphy as President of its Mining business area and a member of the Group Executive Management team. The appointment will take effect on 1 July 2026.

Murphy will take over the role from Mats Eriksson, who will step down ahead of his planned retirement in 2027. The leadership transition is part of Sandvik’s ongoing succession planning within its mining operations.

Currently serving as President of the Rotary Drilling division within Sandvik’s Mining business, Murphy brings extensive experience from across the organization. Since joining the company in 2001, he has held a range of leadership roles in multiple regions, including Canada, Australia, India, Finland, and the United States.

His previous positions include leading the Underground Drilling division and the Rock Drills and Technologies division, now known as Digital Mining Technologies. This broad international and operational experience has provided him with deep insight into the mining sector and Sandvik’s global business.
