(PRESS RELEASE) GOTHENBURG, 4-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Kapsch TrafficCom, selected by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), has successfully completed the first major phase of the Gothenburg Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) system, one of the world’s largest urban congestion charging projects. The system, which will ultimately cover the entire city center, is set to modernize Gothenburg’s traffic infrastructure and significantly reduce congestion and emissions.

The project involves the replacement of 50 tolling stations and 91 charging points across the city, each equipped with advanced technology for automatic vehicle identification under various traffic and weather conditions. As of August 2024, Kapsch TrafficCom’s system is operational at 66% of all tolled passages and 57% of all charging points. The successful implementation is expected to generate approximately EUR 90 million annually for local infrastructure improvements.

Carolin Treichl, EVP for Europe, Middle East, and North Africa at Kapsch TrafficCom, expressed pride in the project’s progress, emphasizing the importance of the new technology in managing urban congestion.
