A key outcome is the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Oberkochen, Germany, by Q1 2025. (PRESS RELEASE) OBERKOCHEN , 19-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — At the AUSA 2024 conference, defense technology leaders HENSOLDT and Raytheon solidified their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focusing on enhancing cooperation on Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) systems for NATO forces. Authored by both companies, the agreement underscores their mutual commitment to improving the sustainment and operational readiness of critical military technologies for NATO operations. The MoU aims to bring essential support services closer to NATO units, ensuring reliable access to high-performance EO/IR systems that are mission-ready.

The collaboration between HENSOLDT and Raytheon is set to advance with the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Oberkochen, Germany, expected to be operational by Q1 2025. This facility will provide much-needed support for NATO partners across Europe, boosting the readiness and operational capability of EO/IR systems in the field.

Initially focusing on airborne EO/IR programs across Europe and the United States, the partnership plans to expand its scope to land-based systems as well. By combining their expertise, both companies are well-positioned to address the needs of NATO and other defense customers in both regions.

Tanya Altmann, Head of the Optronics & Land Solutions division at HENSOLDT, commented, “This MoU represents a shared vision of bringing our capabilities closer to our customers’ needs. By partnering with Raytheon, we are ensuring that customers in both Europe and the US have access to the most advanced EO/IR systems, backed by world-class sustainment services.”

With the signing of the MoU, the next phase of the partnership will focus on finalizing the MRO facility and further strengthening support for NATO’s operational needs, while positioning both companies for expansion into the US market in the near future.
