Embracing the theme “No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all,” the EIB reaffirms its commitment to promoting the rights of LGBTIQ individuals in its global operations and within its organizational culture. As part of its initiatives, the EIB Proud employee resource group celebrates its 10th anniversary, emphasizing the importance of LGBTIQ inclusion in both the workplace and the broader community.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 17-May-2024— /EuropaWire/ — On 17th of May, the European Investment Bank Group is observing the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), taking place during the European Diversity Month.

This year’s theme “No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all” is a call for unity: only through solidarity for each other will we create a world without injustice, where everyone is truly included.

The celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights last year reminded us that the promise “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” is not yet fulfilled — for LGBTIQ people across the world, and for everyone enduring the effects of multiple layers of inequality.

The EIB Group is reaffirming its pledge to respect, protect and promote the full and equal enjoyment of human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex individuals.

The EIB Group is committed to:

  • Serving as an ambassador for LGBTIQ rights in our operations across the globe to ensure that LGBTIQ individuals can benefit fully from our projects.
  • Advancing the discussion around LGBTIQ inclusion in the workplace by continuing to foster an organisation where everyone feels they belong and can be themselves.
  • Promoting an inclusive culture of diverse voices, where we put Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the heart of who we are and what we do.

On the eve of IDAHOT, the EIB Group celebrated the 10th anniversary of its employee resource group “EIB Proud” composed of colleagues who identify as LGBTIQ as well as allies. EIB Proud organised a panel discussion with senior management and staff members on the importance of LGBTIQ inclusion in the workplace and the Group’s operations.
