DSO/TSO Technopedia Platform Launches to Accelerate Smart Grid Adoption Across Europe

(IN BRIEF) DSO Entity and ENTSO-E have launched the DSO/TSO Technopedia platform to advance the development of smart grids across Europe. The platform will showcase technologies supporting smart grid rollouts and provide system operators with valuable insights into effective applications and best practices. The first submission window for technology use cases is open until June 30, 2025, and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in expanding the platform’s knowledge base.

(PRESS RELEASE) BRUSSELS, 30-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — DSO Entity and ENTSO-E are excited to unveil the DSO/TSO Technopedia platform, an innovative new initiative stemming from the European Commission’s Action Plan for EU Grids, released on November 28, 2023. This plan outlines critical measures to accelerate the development of electricity infrastructure across Europe, with DSO Entity and ENTSO-E tasked with advancing smart grid adoption, enhancing network efficiency, and promoting the integration of innovative technologies.

The DSO/TSO Technopedia platform is set to play a pivotal role in supporting the deployment of smart grids by showcasing technologies that improve grid efficiency and bolster the security of supply throughout Europe. By offering detailed descriptions of the technologies available to system operators, along with practical use cases and deployment examples from across the continent, the platform will provide valuable insights into how various technologies are being utilized. This will enable system operators to explore successful applications, share best practices, and adopt similar solutions to enhance their own grids.

The platform will also be open to contributions from stakeholders, allowing them to submit their own use cases and technological applications, helping to expand the collective knowledge base. This collaborative effort will ensure that the platform remains a dynamic and effective resource for system operators.

For the 2025 rollout, DSO Entity and ENTSO-E have identified a selection of key technologies to focus on, with all submitted applications being assessed based on transparent, clearly defined criteria outlined in the platform’s accompanying guidance document. The first DSO/TSO Technopedia submission window is now open, and all relevant stakeholders are invited to submit applications on technology use cases.

The application template, guidelines, and the specific technologies covered in this first submission window are available on the platform’s dedicated website.

Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their applications by June 30, 2025. The two associations are eager to collaborate with stakeholders throughout this process and welcome ongoing input and feedback to ensure that the DSO/TSO Technopedia platform evolves into the most effective resource possible for advancing smart grid initiatives across Europe.

For more information on the platform, including background details, selected technologies, evaluation guidelines, and the 2025 implementation timeline, visit the dedicated website.
