DHL Group Partners with Neste to Advance Sustainable Logistics and Achieve Net-Zero Emissions by 2050

(IN BRIEF) DHL Group has partnered with Neste to explore renewable solutions, such as renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), to help the company achieve its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The collaboration aims to reduce emissions from both air and road transportation, with interim targets set for 2030. DHL plans to gradually increase its SAF usage, targeting 300,000 tons per year by 2030, while also exploring the use of renewable diesel in road transport. The two companies have already been collaborating in areas like SAF delivery and the development of the ISCC Credit Transfer System.

(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 5-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — DHL Group is committed to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in its logistics operations by 2050, with a bold strategy to decarbonize its entire logistics chain. As part of this effort, the company has partnered with Neste to explore renewable solutions, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), to help reduce emissions from both air and road transportation.

The collaboration will focus on leveraging Neste’s innovative renewable solutions, such as HVO100 (renewable diesel), to support DHL Group’s decarbonization objectives. Specifically, the companies aim to work together to integrate these sustainable fuels into DHL’s operations, helping the company meet its interim target of electrifying two-thirds of its last-mile delivery vehicles and achieving a 30% share of sustainable fuels across all modes of transport by 2030.

To meet DHL’s aviation goals, Neste and DHL will develop a commercial model that gradually increases the supply of SAF, aiming for the delivery of around 300,000 tons of unblended SAF per year by 2030. This partnership will also involve exploring the potential for using renewable diesel in DHL’s road transportation network, further driving down emissions.

Yin Zou, EVP of Corporate Development at DHL Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This agreement with Neste is a major step towards achieving our net-zero emissions target by 2050. By collaborating with a global leader in renewable fuels, we can accelerate our progress towards meeting our 2030 interim goals. Together, we will create new solutions that will not only help us but also benefit our customers in their sustainability efforts.”

Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President of Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste, added, “We are excited to deepen our collaboration with DHL Group and offer our renewable fuels as part of a comprehensive approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This partnership allows us to contribute to both road and air transportation decarbonization, helping DHL remain a leader in sustainable logistics.”

DHL and Neste have already been working together for several years, particularly in the field of sustainable aviation fuel. Their partnership has also contributed to the development of the ISCC Credit Transfer System, which enables organizations to credibly track and report emission reductions from SAF use, further advancing sustainability in logistics.
