Alcatel-Lucent and Proximus: 10 million VDSL2 vectoring line shipments reached in the fourth quarter of 2014

Milestone confirms Alcatel-Lucent’s market leadership and industry shift from traditional VDSL2 to VDSL2 vectoring to meet urgent demand for ultra-broadband services.

Brussels, 14-1-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Alcatel-Lucent further underlined its leadership in fixed-line ultra-broadband access by reaching the milestone of 10 million VDSL2 vectoring line shipments. In a ceremony in Brussels, Proximus – Belgium’s leading provider of telecommunications services- the first operator in the world to deploy a nationwide VDSL2 vectoring network, celebrated one year of successful operations and received a golden line card from Alcatel-Lucent to represent the historic 10 million milestone, which was reached in the fourth quarter of 2014, just 3 years since Alcatel-Lucent launched the first VDSL2 vectoring solution.

Alcatel-Lucent currently has 27 VDSL2 vectoring customers in every region of the world, including Israel’s Bezeq, KPN in the Netherlands, Telecom Argentina,Telecom Italia, TE Data in Egypt and NBN Co. in Australia, and has conducted more than 65 trials of the technology.

VDSL2 vectoring allows operators to deploy ultra-broadband services of up to 100 megabits-per-second over their existing copper telephone networks, making it quick and economical to deploy as a complement to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). As a result, operators can rapidly meet rising customer demand for high-definition television, video-on-demand and online gaming while protecting existing investments.
