SECURE 500® Gains TL 2350-0000 Certification, Bolstering Salzgitter’s Defense Materials Offering

SECURE 500® underwent the intensive testing procedure for TL approval

(IN BRIEF) Salzgitter Group and Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH have obtained WTD 91 certification under TL 2350-0000 for their SECURE 500® steel in 6–16 mm thicknesses, confirming its suitability for military use after extensive weldability and blast-resistance testing. This approval strengthens Salzgitter AG’s foothold in the defense sector, addressing rising European security demands. Produced via a state-of-the-art quenched-and-tempered process, SECURE 500® offers a fine martensitic structure with high hardness and exacting surface and dimensional standards. Salzgitter AG is also advancing TL approval for other SECURE grades to complete its defense-oriented portfolio.

(PRESS RELEASE) SALZGITTER, 9-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The Salzgitter Group and its subsidiary Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH have secured official approval from the German Military Technical Center 91 (WTD 91) under Technical Delivery Conditions TL 2350-0000, certifying their high-performance steel grade SECURE 500® in thicknesses ranging from 6 to 16 mm for use in military vehicles and protective systems. Through rigorous TL testing—including assessments of weldability and performance under fire and blast scenarios—SECURE 500® has demonstrated exceptional quality and reliability, reinforcing Salzgitter AG’s reputation as a leading supplier for defense-grade steel applications.

Ilsenburger Grobblech’s advanced heat-treatment plant in Ilsenburg produces SECURE 500® with a quenched-and-tempered fine martensitic microstructure, delivering outstanding hardness, surface finish, and dimensional precision vital for ballistic protection. “Achieving TL approval for our SECURE 500® range marks a major milestone after exhaustive trials,” said Thorsten Gintaut, Managing Director Sales at Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH.

Salzgitter AG is currently pursuing TL certification for additional steel grades; once these are ratified by the German Armed Forces, the full suite of SECURE products will become available for defense and security applications.
