ANDRITZ Secures Contracts to Boost Brazilian Grid Stability with Synchronous Condensers

(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ, an international technology group, has secured two contracts in Brazil to supply 330 MVAr synchronous condenser systems, which are essential for improving grid stability in regions increasingly reliant on renewable energy sources like wind and solar. These systems will help maintain grid efficiency and ensure reliable power in areas like Bahia, Minas Gerais, and Ceará Crateús. As Brazil continues to transition to cleaner energy, ANDRITZ’s technology will play a critical role in enhancing grid resilience and stability.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 26-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — International technology group ANDRITZ has signed two contracts to provide synchronous condenser systems to Brazil, in an effort to enhance the country’s grid stability amidst increasing reliance on renewable energy sources. Each project involves the supply of a 330 MVAr synchronous condenser, designed to improve grid efficiency and ensure a reliable power supply. The condensers will support critical transmission lines between Bahia and Minas Gerais and in the Ceará Crateús region.

Synchronous condensers have proven to be a cost-effective and reliable solution for maintaining grid stability, particularly in systems impacted by the volatility of wind and solar power. By delivering these cutting-edge systems, ANDRITZ aims to strengthen Brazil’s power infrastructure and contribute to the nation’s clean energy transition.

“We are honored by the trust our clients have placed in our capabilities,” said Sérgio Gomes, Sales Director of ANDRITZ Hydropower in Brazil. “These contracts reinforce our strong presence in the market and showcase our ability to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions. Our manufacturing hub in Araraquara, São Paulo, plays a key role in this effort, producing high-quality synchronous condensers that meet the modern demands of power grids.”

ANDRITZ’s scope of work for both projects includes the 330 MVAr synchronous condenser systems, along with mechanical and electrical components, automation, protection systems, step-up transformers, field assembly, and commissioning services. As Brazil continues its shift towards a cleaner energy mix, ANDRITZ remains committed to supporting the development of a more resilient and efficient power grid.
