DHL and Formula 1® Biofuel Trucks Slash Carbon Emissions by 83% During European Leg of 2023 Championship

(IN BRIEF) DHL and Formula 1® have achieved an impressive 83% reduction in carbon emissions during the European leg of the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship by using a new fleet of trucks powered by HVO100 biofuel. These trucks, which transported an average of 300 tons of freight per race, ran on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and traveled over 10,600 km across nine European rounds. The partnership, focused on sustainability and innovation, plans to continue using biofuel in 2024 and beyond as part of Formula 1’s commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2030. The biofuel-powered trucks offer the same load capacity and travel distance as their diesel counterparts and are equipped with GPS for fuel consumption monitoring and route optimization.

(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 20-Sep-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Across the nine European rounds, the new 18 trucks were powered by HVO1002 drop-in fuel (hydrotreated vegetable oil)  and travelled over 10,600 km, transporting an average of 300 tons of freight per race. These trucks were vital in delivering the events in Europe, which concluded with the FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAN PREMIO D’ITALIA 2023 in Monza last month.

The biofuel-driven trucks maintain the same level of performance in terms of load capacity and travel distance as their diesel counterparts, and all trucks in the DHL fleet are equipped with GPS to monitor fuel consumption and optimize more efficient routes.
