Wood Continues Support for Strategically Important UK Gas Infrastructure with Expanded Role Across Shell’s Southern North Sea Operations

(IN BRIEF) Wood has secured a 16-month extension to its technical personnel and engineering support contract with Shell U.K. Limited, enabling it to continue providing specialist services across key Southern North Sea assets including the Leman and Sole Pit platforms, associated NUIs, the Kroonborg walk-to-work vessel, and the Bacton Gas Plant. More than 150 Wood professionals will remain involved in maintaining and optimising infrastructure that transports gas into the National Transmission System and supplies up to 33 per cent of the UK’s gas needs. Since 2021, Wood has increased its on-site workforce by 25 per cent, underscoring the strategic importance of these facilities, while senior leadership emphasises the role of reliable domestic energy production and Wood’s long-standing partnership with Shell across offshore and onshore brownfield EPC projects.

(PRESS RELEASE) ABERDEEN, 10-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Wood has been awarded a further 16-month extension to its existing agreement with Shell U.K. Limited, continuing its provision of technical staffing and engineering support services across several of Shell’s major assets in the Southern North Sea.

Under the extended contract, more than 150 Wood engineers, technicians and specialists will be deployed across the Leman and Sole Pit offshore gas platforms, multiple normally unattended installations (NUIs), the Kroonborg walk-to-work (W2W) vessel, and the Shell-operated Bacton Gas Plant on the Norfolk coast.

The Leman and Sole Pit platforms play a critical role in transporting natural gas to the Bacton Gas Plant, which is integrated into the National Transmission System and supplies up to approximately one-third of the UK’s total gas demand.

Since Wood first secured this contract in 2021, the company has expanded its on-site workforce by around 25 per cent, reflecting both the scale of operations and the strategic importance of these assets to the UK’s energy infrastructure.

Darren Anderson, Senior Vice President of UK Operations at Wood, commented that the ongoing maintenance and optimisation of the UK’s offshore oil and gas facilities is vital for ensuring a secure and stable domestic energy supply for households and businesses nationwide. He added that Wood is pleased to continue providing its technical expertise and long-standing local experience in support of these operations.

Wood has collaborated with Shell U.K. Limited for many years, delivering brownfield engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services across a wide range of offshore and onshore facilities in the UK energy sector.
