Viaplay and TV 2 Expand Collaboration to Stream Over 3,000 Football Matches in Norway

(IN BRIEF) Viaplay and TV 2 have established a rights‑sharing partnership to simulcast each other’s football content in Norway. Beginning this autumn, more than 3,000 games—including top European leagues, national cups, and UEFA competitions—will be available on both Viaplay and TV 2 Play. This initiative builds on prior agreements covering winter sports and handball, aiming to bolster both broadcasters’ offerings and simplify viewer access. Viaplay’s standalone football package launches in August, with TV 2 Play access following in the autumn months.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 17-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Viaplay and TV 2 have joined forces to make an extensive selection of football fixtures readily available across Norway this coming autumn and winter. Through this agreement, subscribers to either service will gain access to each other’s premium football rights, encompassing domestic leagues, cup competitions, and key European tournaments.

Under the deal, fans can enjoy live coverage of LaLiga, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, Norway’s Toppserien, international friendlies, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Conference League—totaling over 3,000 matches per season. This collaboration follows the earlier sharing of winter sports and handball rights, reflecting both broadcasters’ strategy to strengthen their market positions through cooperation.

Olav T. Sandnes, CEO of TV 2, explains that in an evolving media landscape, “Public broadcasters must collaborate to stay competitive. After successfully sharing winter sports and handball content with Viaplay, extending our partnership to football was the natural next step.” Kenneth Andresen, CEO of Viaplay Group Norway, adds, “By pooling our resources, we simplify access for viewers and offer a richer football lineup. This partnership deepens our existing rights-sharing across multiple sports.”

Viaplay will roll out its dedicated football subscription package in August, and TV 2 Play subscribers will be able to stream the shared matches later in the autumn.
