(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 25-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Henkel has introduced a new sustainable packaging concept for its adhesive solutions by transitioning to tinplate cans made from bluemint® steel, significantly reducing the environmental impact of its packaging. Developed in collaboration with thyssenkrupp Rasselstein and Austrian metal packaging specialist Pirlo, the initiative achieves a 62 percent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional tinplate packaging.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Henkel is implementing the new packaging across multiple product categories in Europe, targeting both professional craftsmen and consumer markets. The shift reflects the company’s continued efforts to lower its carbon footprint while maintaining the high performance and reliability expected from its adhesive, sealant and coating solutions.

Tinplate cans are widely used by Henkel for customized applications, particularly within professional trades. The company is among the first globally to adopt bluemint® steel for packaging pipe adhesives, including products under its established Tangit brand, which has delivered high-performance piping solutions for more than six decades. The new packaging is also being introduced for other adhesive types, such as contact adhesives.

The use of bluemint® steel enhances the sustainability profile of tinplate packaging, which is already considered an environmentally responsible option. The material offers significantly reduced production emissions without affecting product quality or durability. Its environmental performance has been independently verified and certified by TÜV SÜD, ensuring transparency and credibility in emission reductions.

In addition to lower emissions, tinplate packaging continues to demonstrate strong recyclability. With a recycling rate of 83.7 percent across Europe, it remains one of the most widely recycled packaging materials available, supporting circular economy objectives.

The collaboration between Henkel, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein and Pirlo highlights the role of partnerships in advancing sustainable innovation within industrial packaging. By integrating lower-emission materials into its packaging solutions, Henkel is reinforcing its commitment to reducing environmental impact while strengthening the market positioning of its key brands.

This development represents a further step in Henkel’s efforts to meet its ambitious sustainability targets, combining material innovation with product performance to deliver more environmentally responsible solutions for both professionals and consumers.
