Equipped with advanced features and safety systems, these locomotives represent a strategic investment in eco-friendly and efficient rail transport solutions for Europe.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 20-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens AG (ETR: SIE), a German multinational conglomerate and Europe’s largest industrial manufacturing company, announces that Siemens Mobility and Railpool, a leading rail vehicle rental company in Europe, have recently inked a significant framework agreement, marking the beginning of a collaboration set to deliver up to 250 locomotives. The initial phase of this partnership sees Railpool calling up 70 Vectron locomotives, enhancing its fleet’s versatility and operational reach across Europe.

Of the 70 locomotives, Railpool has requested 24 multisystem Vectrons capable of seamlessly traversing AC and DC networks, along with 46 AC locomotives. This strategic move aims to bolster Railpool’s operational capabilities in up to 16 countries, facilitating cross-border transport without the need for locomotive changes.

“This expansion of our modern fleet underscores our commitment to providing maximum operational flexibility for our customers,” stated Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool. “Incorporating multi-system locomotives for east-west traffic and additional AC locomotives tailored for the Scandinavian corridor and the DACH region aligns with our forward-looking approach. With both MS and AC locomotives, we’re well-prepared for the upcoming ETCS expansion in Europe.”

Siemens Mobility’s CEO Rolling Stock, Albrecht Neumann, expressed delight in the ongoing partnership, emphasizing the customer satisfaction reflected in follow-up orders like this. “Our locomotives consistently impress with their quality and operational reliability,” Neumann noted. “The Vectron’s versatility enables Railpool to swiftly adapt to evolving market demands, facilitating eco-friendly, cross-border rail transport across Europe.”

The Vectron locomotives destined for Railpool boast an impressive output of 6.4 megawatts and can achieve speeds of up to 230 km/h, depending on the variant. Equipped with national train protection systems and the European Train Control System, these locomotives ensure safe and efficient operations on European rail corridors.

This initial call for 70 Vectron locomotives further solidifies Siemens Mobility’s position as a leading provider of rail solutions, with over 2,400 Vectron locomotives sold to 96 customers in 16 countries. To date, the Vectron fleet has covered more than 900 million kilometers and is approved for operation in 20 European countries, underscoring its reliability and versatility in the rail industry.
