Thales selected by Oman’s Ministry of Transport & Communications for full deployment of an integrated security solution for Muscat International Airport and Salalah’s new airport

Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, 4-9-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Thales, a major provider of security solutions for critical infrastructure, has been selected by the Ministry of Transport & Communications of Oman for the full deployment of an integrated security solution for Muscat International Airport and Salalah’s new airport. Thales is delivering state-of-the-art technologies to ensure the protection of both infrastructures as well as travelers.

Thales is taking charge as Master System Integrator (MSI) for both airports, and is providing a high technology integrated security solution managed by an airport operation control centre including perimeter intrusion detection system, video protection system, access control,
screening equipment, security check points, access and backbone network along with data centres to ensure high performance and quality of services.

In addition, Thales is responsible for testing new technologies, training operators and developing new procedures for improving the airports’ multi-faceted operations.

The development of Muscat International Airport is the largest infrastructure project in Oman. When its new terminal building opens, annual passenger capacity will reach 12 million, helping the Sultanate with the development of its tourism industry.

Salalah, Oman’s second largest city is already benefiting from its new airport after it was officially opened on 15th June 2015, with an initial annual capacity of 1 million passengers. Both airports are able to accommodate the world’s largest aircraft, Airbus’ A380.

Thales’s experience in provision of security solutions is playing a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and on time delivery of all the systems and equipment to Muscat International Airport and Salalah’s new airport. The state-of-the-art technologies are also helping the airports become interconnected through hub development with inter-operability and full service support for security stakeholders.

This selection is the latest in a long line of projects confirming Thales’s position as a leader in global airport security solutions. Thales secures the latest and most state-of-the-art critical infrastructures: the airports in Dubai and Doha, the new commercial port in Doha and oil and gas sites in Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Iraq and Eurasia.
