Thales Radios Approved for NATO Deployment After Successful German Armed Forces Testing

(IN BRIEF) Thales radios, including the PR4G and SYNAPS-H models, successfully passed a four-week operational test by the German Armed Forces for deployment with NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence (eFP). The tests demonstrated the radios’ ability to provide secure, encrypted communication for multinational battalion groups, with the capacity to transmit voice, data, and positional information simultaneously. Despite minimal training, soldiers quickly achieved operational readiness, validating the radios’ suitability for deployment in NATO missions on Europe’s eastern flank.

(PRESS RELEASE) LA DÉFENSE, 16-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Thales has announced the successful completion of operational tests for its PR4G and SYNAPS-H radios by the German Armed Forces, showcasing their effectiveness in supporting the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) deployment. Conducted over a four-week period, the trials demonstrated that Thales radios meet the rigorous requirements for secure, interoperable communication systems necessary for multinational battalion groups deployed on NATO’s eastern flank.

These trials were carried out in collaboration with the Army Development Office, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), and military testing teams from Germany, France, and the Netherlands. The focus was on ensuring that the radios could provide modern, encrypted communication while simultaneously transmitting voice, data, and positional information—a crucial capability for multinational operations.

According to Christoph Ruffner, CEO and Country Director of Thales Deutschland, “The PR4G and SYNAPS-H radios performed exceptionally well, meeting all requirements and clearing the way for operational deployment within the German Armed Forces. We are proud that our radios will enhance communication for forces stationed in Lithuania, providing them with secure, modern capabilities.”

Despite minimal training, soldiers were able to establish operational readiness within an hour, and the radios impressed with their stable network and performance in range tests. This success highlights Thales’ commitment to providing reliable, secure communication systems for defense operations.

The NATO enhanced Forward Presence is designed to reinforce NATO’s defensive posture on Europe’s eastern flank, with battlegroups stationed in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, led by the UK, Canada, Germany, and the U.S., respectively.
