Slimmer Area Gripper from Schmalz Offers High Operational Reliability

The narrow area gripper handles workpieces regardless of their geometry, position and orientation.

(PRESS RELEASE) GLATTEN, Germany, 9-Jan-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — J. Schmalz GmbH, the market leader in vacuum automation and ergonomic handling solutions, has announced the introduction of a new, slimmer series of its universal area gripper called the FXP-60 and FMP-60. The vacuum area gripping system is available in various lengths and can be purchased with or without an integrated vacuum generator. The FXP-60 and FMP-60 are 60 millimeters wide, making them suitable for use in tight spaces or for handling single beams. Despite their slimness, they feature an energy-efficient multi-stage ejector that ensures low running costs and high operational reliability. The FMP-60 is designed to be used with an external vacuum generator.

Ideal areas of application are the automated handling of plastic, sheet metal, glass and wood as well as in intralogistics. Despite its narrow width, the FXP-/FMP-60 is not picky when it comes to the dimensions or pickup position of the workpiece. Thanks to integrated flow restrictor technology, the minimum degree of coverage is 50 percent. Thus, even workpieces with recesses or made of porous materials are no difficulty for the narrow gripper.

The new area gripper is particularly lightweight with its modular design consisting of an aluminum profile with sealing foam as the gripping surface. This enables high dynamics in the handling process. While the width is set, the customer can specify the length individually in 18-millimeter increments. The minimum is 316 millimeters for the FMP-60 variant and 388 millimeters for the version with integrated vacuum generator; the maximum is 1,972 millimeters.
