New Framework Agreement Expands Sweco’s Role in Vattenfall’s Net-Zero Energy Strategy

(IN BRIEF) Sweco has secured a new framework agreement with Vattenfall starting in January 2026, covering technical consulting services across a wide spectrum of energy technologies and infrastructure. Valued at approximately SEK 600 million over an initial three-year period, the agreement extends a long-standing partnership focused on modernising and developing Vattenfall’s energy assets. Sweco’s role will support Vattenfall’s progress toward its 2040 net-zero emissions target while addressing the growing technical and regulatory complexity of the energy transition. The contract highlights Sweco’s broad expertise across renewable energy, nuclear power, grid systems and emerging low-carbon technologies.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 16-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Sweco has been selected by Vattenfall to deliver a broad range of technical consulting services under a new framework agreement that strengthens the companies’ long-standing cooperation in the energy sector. The agreement, which will take effect in January 2026, spans an initial three-year period and represents an estimated order value of around SEK 600 million, with the possibility of extensions.

The framework agreement covers consulting support across multiple energy disciplines, including wind, hydropower, thermal power and nuclear energy, as well as electricity and district heating systems. Through this engagement, Sweco will support Vattenfall in the ongoing development, modernisation and operation of its energy assets, while contributing technical expertise to innovation initiatives aligned with the company’s long-term sustainability goals.

A key focus of the collaboration is supporting Vattenfall’s ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2040. Sweco’s multidisciplinary teams will provide engineering and advisory services aimed at improving efficiency, reliability and environmental performance across both existing facilities and new energy projects. The agreement reflects the increasing complexity of the energy transition, where large-scale infrastructure upgrades must be delivered alongside regulatory compliance, system resilience and decarbonisation targets.

Vattenfall, which is wholly owned by the Swedish state, plays a central role in Europe’s electricity and heat markets and is accelerating its shift toward fossil-free energy solutions. Under the new framework, Sweco will also contribute expertise in specialised areas such as new power and heat production technologies and the final storage of spent nuclear fuel, highlighting the breadth and technical depth of the assignment.

The contract further reinforces Sweco’s position as a key advisor in the energy transition. The company works across the full energy value chain, supporting transmission and distribution system operators, grid expansion projects, security of supply and power balancing. In parallel, Sweco is actively involved in emerging technologies including hydrogen systems, large-scale battery energy storage and carbon capture, utilisation and storage, enabling clients to navigate both near-term challenges and long-term transformation.
