Sweco Approved to Acquire VK architects+engineers by Belgian Competition Authority

(IN BRIEF) Sweco, a European engineering and architecture consultancy, has received approval from the Belgian Competition Authority to acquire VK architects+engineers. The acquisition of VK architects+engineers adds approximately 600 architects and engineers to Sweco, mainly strengthening the company’s position in Belgium within healthcare, buildings, infrastructure, logistics facilities, and clean rooms. VK architects+engineers is primarily active in the Belgian market but also has a presence in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam. Sweco will also take over VK architects+engineers’ subsidiaries, including Infranea, DENC, One Simulations, Betic Ingénieurs-Conseils, EKOplan, Van Looy Group, and Exilab.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 21-Mar-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  Sweco (STO: SWEC-B), a European engineering consultancy company, announces that it has received formal approval from the Belgian Competition Authority to acquire VK architects+engineers. The acquisition of VK architects+engineers, a multidisciplinary design firm specializing in healthcare, industry, and infrastructure, will be consolidated into Sweco from March 31st. The acquisition adds approximately 600 architects and engineers to Sweco, mainly strengthening the company’s position in Belgium within healthcare, buildings, infrastructure, logistics facilities, and clean rooms. VK architects+engineers is primarily active in the Belgian market but also has a presence in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam. The Group has a consolidated pro forma turnover of approximately EUR 70 million in 2022.

As part of the acquisition, Sweco will take over all shares in VK architects+engineers’ subsidiaries, including Infranea, a design firm specializing in 3D design, BIM services, and VR simulations, and DENC, an architecture and engineering firm specializing in logistics, industrial, and commercial real estate. Sweco will also acquire engineering firm One Simulations, Betic Ingénieurs-Conseils, and EKOplan, as well as the Belgian firms Van Looy Group and Exilab. The acquisition of VK architects+engineers and its subsidiaries further strengthens Sweco’s position in the market and broadens the company’s expertise in architecture and engineering.
