(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 27-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Lux Express, Estonia’s premier long-distance bus company, has launched an enhanced travel experience with the addition of nine NEOPLAN Skyliner double-decker coaches. This significant upgrade on the highly popular Tallinn-Tartu route marks the largest investment in Lux Express’ history, with the €6 million investment aimed at increasing passenger capacity and improving service quality. These state-of-the-art coaches are specially designed for the Estonian market, offering 63 seats and a high level of comfort, making them ideal for both commuters and tourists.

With more than 30 daily departures in both directions, the Skyliner coaches provide an additional 500 seats per day, addressing the growing demand and alleviating overcrowding during peak hours. According to Ingmar Roos, a member of the Lux Express management board, “Passenger numbers have surged, and we’ve faced situations where all tickets were sold out. By adding 500 extra seats each day, we aim to solve the problem of passengers being left without tickets or enduring overcrowded trains.”

The addition of the Skyliner coaches also provides ecological and logistical benefits. By transporting more passengers per journey, the fleet reduces the number of buses needed on the road, helping to ease the pressure on other transport systems, such as trains. Roos adds, “This investment is not only about increasing capacity; it’s about creating a more sustainable, efficient, and well-organized service that can reduce congestion and improve access to high-quality transport.”

The Skyliner double-deckers provide two distinct environments within one vehicle: a relaxing lounge area on the lower level and the spacious upper deck with 2+1 seating and panoramic views, offering a comfortable, luxurious travel experience. Additionally, the coaches are equipped with individual seat displays for entertainment and a galley serving food and drinks, ensuring a pleasant journey for all passengers.

Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, remarked, “We are thrilled to see commuters and tourists travel between Tallinn and Tartu in complete comfort, with the highly efficient diesel drive ensuring sustainability alongside luxury.”
