Insurance and reinsurance underwriting group Kiln appointed Satoshi Naganuma as Active Underwriter of Tokio Marine Kiln Syndicate 1880

19-8-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Kiln, the specialist insurance and reinsurance underwriting group, has appointed Satoshi Naganuma as Active Underwriter of Tokio Marine Kiln Syndicate 1880, with effect from Monday 12 August.

Satoshi, whose career in the insurance industry spans 20 years, is Head of Group of Coordination for Kiln and its parent company, Tokio Marine.

A former underwriter, he began his career at Tokio Marine in Japan supporting the outwards reinsurance placements of facultative and treaty business, before progressing to underwriting large international property and liability insurance programmes in the company’s non-marine underwriting department.

Having completed law studies, he then moved into the mergers and acquisitions team and played an instrumental role in Tokio Marine’s acquisition of Kiln. He joined Kiln in 2008 and was a key part of the team that established Syndicate 1880. Following the syndicate’s formation, he was appointed as Senior Underwriting Manager to support the Active Underwriter in developing and leading its underwriting strategy, processes, portfolio management and underwriting systems. He joined the Board of R J Kiln & Co Limited as a Director in 2011.

Syndicate 1880, Kiln’s only wholly aligned syndicate, is fully capitalised by Tokio Marine and writes Large Commercial Property and Engineering business among others. It is also used as a vehicle to support strategic initiatives such as Kiln’s investment in WNC.

Charles Franks, Chief Executive Officer, said: “Satoshi has been closely involved in the strategic discussions and development of Syndicate 1880 since he joined Kiln and I am delighted that he has undertaken this important role within the group. He has a clear understanding of Kiln, the syndicate and Tokio Marine, and he brings a wealth of expertise and insight to the role which will be of huge benefit to us. He is exceptionally well placed to meet the needs of Kiln and the syndicate’s capital provider.”

Satoshi said: “I am thrilled to be undertaking this role and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges it presents. Syndicate 1880 has become a core syndicate for Kiln and I am keen not only to maintain that position, but also to ensure we deliver the right, focused strategy for the syndicate and for Kiln as a whole.”

Satoshi will be supported by Karen Boyes as Deputy Underwriter of the syndicate, who has been at Kiln for 26 years.
