(IN BRIEF) Iberdrola España and the Madrid government have opened a 47-bay EV charging station in Leganés with 15 ultra-fast chargers (350 kW and 240 kW), 10 fast chargers (60 kW) and 22 semi-fast chargers (22 kW). Powered by rooftop solar, the hub serves Leganés and neighboring cities, offers 80 % battery charge in under 15 minutes or 200 km range in five minutes, and can feed renewable energy to 100 nearby homes or businesses. Part of the EU-backed MOVES Singular Projects II, the facility advances Madrid’s sustainable-mobility leadership and exemplifies public–private collaboration.

(PRESS RELEASE) BILBAO, 17-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Iberdrola España and the Community of Madrid today inaugurated one of Spain’s largest public fast-charging hubs for electric vehicles, located in Leganés. The 1,260 m² station—situated next to Parque Polvoranca commuter rail and within easy reach of the M-406, M-407, M-409 and M-50 motorways—offers 47 charging bays powered by rooftop solar panels. Fifteen bays provide ultra-fast charging (eight at 350 kW and seven at 240 kW), enabling drivers to replenish 80 % of a battery in under 15 minutes or gain 200 km of range in just five minutes. Ten additional bays deliver 60 kW for half-hour charging, while 22 semi-fast bays operate at 22 kW.

This hub will serve Leganés’s 750,000-strong catchment area—including Getafe, Fuenlabrada and Alcorcón—and can also supply up to 100 nearby homes or businesses with on-site renewable energy. Iberdrola España will handle operations and maintenance under the MOVES Singular Projects II Programme, part of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan funded by the EU via IDAE.

Miguel Ángel García Martín, Regional Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, said, “This electric car park adds to Madrid’s leadership in sustainable mobility and represents a major step forward for Leganés and the entire region.” Mayor Miguel Ángel Recuenco highlighted the project’s economic, environmental and social benefits, noting that the integrated photovoltaic system will let local families save on their electricity bills. Antonio Armengot, Iberdrola Clientes representative in Madrid, added, “Public–private partnerships like this are essential to improving urban air quality and residents’ well-being. With over 9,500 public chargers already in operation, Iberdrola leads Spain’s transition to electric mobility.”
