(PRESS RELEASE) PRAGUE, 9-Dec-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — FedEx Corporation, the world leader in express transportation, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art facility in Plzeň, Czech Republic, as part of its ongoing investment in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Designed to meet the rising demands of logistics, e-commerce, and regional manufacturing, this new facility underscores FedEx’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and operational efficiency across Europe.

The Plzeň facility, covering 2,600 square meters, is nearly twice the size of its predecessor. It incorporates advanced infrastructure, including 23 courier van docking bays, eight docks for linehaul vehicles, and a motorized belt sorter with dimensional (DIM) capabilities to optimize parcel handling. The site also features eco-friendly innovations, such as photovoltaic panels and charging stations for electric vehicles, aligning with FedEx’s sustainability goals.

Strategically integrated into the FedEx European Road Network, the Plzeň center connects directly to logistics hubs in Nuremberg, Vienna, and Hanover. It also provides seamless access to the FedEx Air Network through Prague Airport, enabling efficient delivery services across Europe and beyond. The European Road Network, one of the largest in the region, spans 45 countries and processes over 1.3 million shipments weekly, offering a unique combination of parcel and freight handling.

“This new facility in Plzeň enhances our ability to deliver reliable, innovative solutions to meet our customers’ growing international needs,” said Mariusz Mik, Vice President Ground Operations Nordics and Eastern Europe. “It is another vital step in our strategy to support economic growth in Central and Eastern Europe and expand our regional presence.”

A Growing Commitment to the Czech Republic and Beyond

FedEx continues to strengthen its presence in the Czech Republic, now operating five facilities nationwide. In 2022, the company unveiled its largest Czech facility in Prague, a 10,000-square-meter hub equipped with advanced technology to streamline logistics operations. Over the last four years, FedEx has invested in modernizing and establishing logistics sites across six CEE countries, collectively covering over 45,000 square meters of operational space.

Plzeň’s Role as a Logistics Hub

Plzeň, a key industrial city in the Czech Republic, is recognized for its contributions to mechanical engineering, food production, and energy. Its strategic location along the D5 motorway, connecting Prague and Bavaria, makes it an ideal base for logistics and transportation operations.

With this new facility, FedEx reinforces its commitment to driving regional economic growth, supporting local businesses, and positioning the Czech Republic as a crucial logistics hub within Europe.
