Enhancing Flight Safety: Malaysia Airlines Invests in Thales Avionics Technology

(IN BRIEF) Malaysia Airlines has announced a partnership with Thales to equip 20 of its Airbus A330neo aircraft with advanced avionics solutions. This includes Thales’ Flight Management System (FMS) and ACSS’ Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (T3CAS®). The collaboration marks the first selection of Thales’ systems by Malaysia Airlines. The Thales FMS offers advanced features and unparalleled reactivity, while ACSS’ T3CAS enhances situational awareness for pilots. The installation and maintenance of these systems will be handled by Thales’ Aviation Global Services center in Singapore, leveraging decades of expertise in avionics support.

(PRESS RELEASE) LA DÉFENCE, 21-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ —  Thales (EPA: HO), a French multinational company active in the aerospace, defence, transportation and security markets, announces that Malaysia Airlines is set to enhance the safety and efficiency of its fleet with the integration of Thales’ Flight Management System (FMS) and ACSS’ Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (T3CAS®) on 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft.

This landmark partnership marks Malaysia Airlines’ inaugural selection of Thales’ Flight Management and Surveillance systems, reflecting the national carrier’s commitment to cutting-edge technology for safer and more efficient flight operations.

The Thales FMS boasts cutting-edge hardware and Airbus Release 1A software, offering unparalleled reactivity and advanced features tailored to flight crew needs. With over 7,000 aircraft already equipped, Thales’ FMS is renowned for its reliability and performance.

ACSS’ T³CAS, the market’s first ADS-B Out DO-260B compliant transponder, integrates communication and surveillance capabilities into a compact system, enhancing situational awareness for pilots with real-time data on surrounding aircraft. Its advanced Terrain Avoidance Warning System (TAWS) function, featuring full Low RNP of 0.1 nautical miles, ensures precise navigation, particularly crucial in mountainous terrain.

The installation and maintenance of these avionics solutions will be carried out at Thales’ Aviation Global Services (AGS) center in Singapore, leveraging over five decades of avionics expertise and support for Airbus aircraft in the region since 1973.

We are honored that Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier of Malaysia, has selected Thales for the first time as their preferred partner for avionics solutions. Our expertise in helping airlines optimize their fleets with high-technology solutions developed by Thales or jointly with our partners, makes us a leading centre for airline services in Asia. We look forward to strengthening our partnership and helping Malaysia Airlines deliver a great experience for their customers,” said Francois PIOLET, General Manager APAC, Aviation Global Services.

“Thales has been supporting the needs of Malaysian customers for over 40 years and we appreciate the trust that Malaysia Airlines now places in our industry-leading avionics solutions. We were proud to provide inflight entertainment systems on their A380 fleet in earlier years and we look forward to future collaboration with the aviation sector now in full recovery,” explained Francois-Xavier BOUTES, Country Director, Thales in Malaysia.

“We are delighted to induct our first A330neo in Q3 2024, delivering an enhanced level of comfort and innovation to our passengers. The integration of Thales’ advanced systems and technology into this new aircraft type will provide our crew with the essential tools to perform their duties with heightened precision, prioritizing the safety of our customers and crew in all our operations,” added Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Airlines.
