EIB and InvestEU Propel OLEDWorks to Boost European Manufacturing and Next-Gen OLED R&D

(IN BRIEF) The European Investment Bank is granting OLEDWorks a €30 million loan, co-financed by the InvestEU programme, to expand production and R&D at its Aachen site. OLEDWorks specializes in energy-efficient, high-brightness OLED lighting for automotive stop-and-turn signals, microdisplays, and specialty applications. This funding will strengthen Europe’s position in advanced lighting manufacturing, accelerate development of next-generation OLED panels—including bendable and display-like configurations—and create approximately 45 new jobs over three to four years. The initiative is supported by the EIB’s Future Tech programme, which provides non-dilutive capital to innovative, venture-backed SMEs across the European Union.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG/AACHEN, 25-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Investment Bank (EIB) will extend a €30 million loan to OLEDWorks, fueling the company’s manufacturing scale-up and R&D expansion in Europe. Backed by the European Commission’s InvestEU programme, this financing targets OLEDWorks’ existing Aachen facility and focuses on accelerating its cutting-edge organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products—ranging from automotive lighting modules to microdisplay and specialty applications.

OLEDWorks’ technology delivers exceptional brightness, long operational life, energy efficiency, and minimal material waste. Its pioneering multi-stack OLED panels for automotive stop-and-turn signals mark the first large-scale deployment of such applications. With EIB support, OLEDWorks will bolster its leadership in OLED innovation, grow its automotive client base, and counteract decades of industry offshoring by keeping advanced lighting manufacturing firmly in Europe.

“We’re committed to fostering strategic, green technologies in Europe,” said Nicola Beer, EIB Vice President overseeing German operations. “Our InvestEU-backed loan to OLEDWorks underscores our dedication to innovation and competitiveness on the continent.” David DeJoy, OLEDWorks’ CEO, highlighted that the funds will accelerate development of higher-segmentation, high-brightness, and bendable OLED panels. Wolfgang Görgen, Managing Director of OLEDWorks GmbH, added that expanded capacity at Aachen will enable faster response to customer demand.

This investment is expected to support the creation of about 45 new positions over the next three to four years. The project falls under the EIB’s Future Tech programme, which bridges financing gaps for EU-based, venture-backed companies seeking non-dilutive growth capital. Since 2016, the EIB innovation financing team has backed over 300 fast-growing firms with some €7 billion in investment.
