(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 6-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — At the International Social Housing Festival in Dublin this week, the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group highlighted its long-standing commitment to advancing the housing sector across Europe. The EIB’s involvement in fostering the delivery of affordable housing was discussed through multiple contributions by key representatives from the institution.

Tanguy Desrousseaux, EIB Group’s director for housing, joined a fireside chat with Irish housing providers, including the Housing Finance Association (HFA) and the Approved Housing Bodies (AHB). The conversation centered around the valuable partnership between the HFA and EIB, which has been instrumental in enhancing housing infrastructure in Ireland. Over the past eight years, this collaboration has seen the EIB lend €750 million to the HFA, facilitating the creation of more than 5,000 affordable homes, as well as energy-efficient upgrades to 550 homes.

In addition to the fireside chat, EIB Group’s managerial advisor for housing, Gerry Muscat, participated in prominent discussions on the challenges and opportunities of financing affordable housing in the EU. He joined panels titled “Ensuring Sustainability and Affordability – Challenges and Opportunities for the European Affordable Housing Plan” and “Financing Affordable Housing in the EU – Opportunities and Challenges in the New European Context.” Andrea Colantonio, senior economist at the EIB, represented the institution as a jury member at the European Responsible Housing Awards and also contributed to the panel event “Guiding Europe Home – The Compass for a New Housing Paradigm.”

The festival event is a part of the EIB Group’s ongoing effort to support the development of sustainable housing. This initiative aligns with the launch of the Housing Task Force in Luxembourg in July 2024, where the EIB gathered around 300 stakeholders to discuss expanding financial support for affordable housing across the EU. A series of follow-up technical meetings in Brussels and Milan are also underway to create a unified investment platform, collaborating closely with the European Commission.
